Theatrical Director

Directing performance through presence, precision, and ensemble collaboration

I work as a theatre director guiding performers and creative teams through clear, rigorous rehearsal processes in support of cohesive, embodied performance. My directing practice centers presence, specificity, and ensemble awareness, with close attention to how focus, timing, and physical choice shape meaning on stage.

I am drawn to projects that value clarity, restraint, and relational storytelling. I believe powerful theatre is built through sustained attention to detail, careful listening, and the thoughtful composition of action in time and space.

Directing Practice

As a director, I focus on interpretation, structure, and performance execution. I collaborate with designers and performers to establish a shared vision and to translate that vision into precise, repeatable performance choices.

My work often emphasizes:

  • Ensemble coherence and shared focus
  • Non-verbal communication and physical storytelling
  • The rhythm and pacing of performance
  • The relationship between performers, space, and audience
  • The accumulation of meaning through small, intentional actions

I am particularly interested in how subtle shifts in attention and energy can carry emotional and narrative weight.

Rehearsal Room Culture

I approach the rehearsal room as a disciplined, collaborative environment. I prioritize clear communication, thoughtful preparation, and respect for the time and labor of the artists involved.

My rehearsal processes are characterized by:

  • Clearly articulated goals and expectations
  • Structured exploration paired with decisive direction
  • Consent-aware approaches to physical work
  • Attention to performer sustainability and focus
  • Space for reflection, feedback, and refinement

I am comfortable holding authority while remaining responsive to the ensemble. When decisions need to be made, I make them with clarity and care.

Physical and Visual Storytelling

My background in movement, puppetry, and interdisciplinary performance informs how I direct physical and visual elements within a production. I work closely with performers and designers to integrate movement, spatial relationships, and visual composition into the storytelling.

This may include:

  • Directing movement-driven scenes and transitions
  • Supporting performers in physically specific character work
  • Integrating puppetry or object-based performance
  • Collaborating across disciplines to support cohesive visual language

These elements are always in service of the production’s narrative and emotional arc.

Context & Experience

I bring more than two decades of experience directing in academic, professional, and community-based contexts. My work has been presented regionally and internationally, including at the Varna International Theatre Festival in Bulgaria.

I am especially experienced in directing productions within educational environments, where artistic rigor and pedagogical clarity must coexist.

This Work Is Well-Suited For

  • Regional and experimental theatres
  • University and conservatory programs
  • Ensemble-driven productions
  • Physically and visually sophisticated work
  • Productions requiring strong rehearsal leadership and clarity
